Osama vs. Obama
Barack Obama and Osama Bin Laden are facing off to gain or retain the allegiance of the Middle East. I do not blog about politics and will technically not do so now. They purpose of this post is to point out a logical fallacy and a disparity.
Barack Obama will inevitably fail. No, no, no; this is not a vast right wing conspiracy based comment. It is a restricted and logical point.
The point is restricted to a statement that Barack Obama just made in one of his Middle East speeches in which he stated,
…any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail…
Yet, his very premise is that his worldview, this world order, will elevate those who hold to it over others who do not hold it. Thus, according to the arguments very own standards, it will inevitably fail. This is the ultimate demise of any supposed inclusivist who excludes exclusivists; they become that which they condemn.
Even as he sought to suppress the idea that one nation or group of people is elevated over another Barack Obama stated,
…Suppressing ideas never succeeds in making them go away…
Overall, what is more interesting and troubling is his pseudo-politically correct exaltation of Islam particularly over Christianity.
He stated that he supports the, "encouraging more Americans to study in Muslim communities" but does not mention encouraging more Muslim to study in Christian communities.
Barack Obama noted that he will be visiting Buchenwald "where Jews were enslaved, tortured, shot and gassed to death." Yet, whilst in Egypt he did not mention the four centuries of Jews being enslaved by Egyptians.
I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam where ever they appear.
But he has not stated that he considers it part of his responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Christianity where ever they appear. By the way; where on Earth or rather, in the Constitution, did he get the extremely odd and alien idea that part of the responsibility of a President of the United States is to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam where ever they appear?
I certainly cannot discern whether Barack Obama does not know the contents, concepts and contexts of the Qur'an or whether, in keeping with his position as a politicus maximus, is playing a placating game.
If you do not know anything else about the Qur'an you must understand the doctrine of abrogation. Later revelation abrogates (formally annuls) previous revelation. The Qur'an is divided into two: the Meccan period and the Medina period. During the Meccan period Muhammad did not have much wealth nor many followers and preached peace. During the Medina period Muhammad had much wealth and many followers and preached force. Thus, the peaceful verses are abrogated by the forceful ones.
Let us not pretend that this is not so just because the grand majority of Muslims, by a long shot, live according to abrogated verses.
During his speech Barack Obama stated,
The Holy Quran teaches that whoever kills an innocent is as -- it is as it if has killed all mankind.
And the Holy Quran also says whoever saves a person, it is as if he has saved all mankind…
The Holy Quran tells us, Mankind, we have created you male and a female. And we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.
Note that whilst in repressive and potentially dangerous Muslim countries Barack Obama makes nice with the Qur'an. And even managed to make nice with the Bible in stating,
The Holy Bible tells us, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Yet, whilst in the comfort, safety and tolerance of the USA which was established on Judeo-Christian principles what does he have to say about the Bible, which he calls "Holy"?
Which passages of scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is OK and that eating shellfish is an abomination? Or we could go with Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount? So before we get carried away, let's read our Bible now. Folks haven't been reading their Bible.
Apparently, Barack Obama has not been reading nor studying his Bible but was merely awash in Rev. Wright's (mis)interpretations.
Will Barack Obama go back to Muslim countries or even within the USA and state:
Which passages of the Qur'an should guide our public policy? Should we go with Surah 3:56, which states, "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help"? Or we could go with Surah 8:39, which states, "And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah." Or should we just stick to the Meccan period? So before we get carried away, let's read our Qur'an now. Folks haven't been reading their Qur'an.
