Mayor accuses Zimbabwe National Water Authority satanism

It’s like water for…well, satan.

Zinwa, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority has been accused on satanism by Martin Kizack Moyo who is the Mayor Councillor of Bulawayo; which is the second largest city in Zimbabwe after the capital Harare.

The accusation came about after Zinwa:
…cut water supplies to a reservoir in Cowdray Park without notice, plunging the western suburbs into a water crisis. The authority reportedly cut the water from Nyamandlovu aquifer on Wednesday last week over an undisclosed debt.

Most western suburbs, including Cowdray Park, Luveve, Emganwini, Lobengula, and Mpopoma have been without water since.

Many in Africa, particularly South Africa, are not afraid, as we are in the USA, to make charges of satanic crimes, for example (as evidenced here). Yet, knee jerk reactions can lead to unsubstantiated claims such as those in this case.

The charge of satanism was not based on occult symbolism, rituals, etc. but on a political grievance:
Speaking during a full council meeting in the council chambers today, Clr Moyo said Zinwa was inspired by the devil.
‘What they did is Satanism because honestly, how can they cut water to more than 1,6 million people? They also owe us money and we can also cut their water, said the mayor.’

Not that it is a pretty picture, after all, “Councillors said the reservoirs had not been cleaned in 20 years” and noted that “the sludge at the bottom of the tanks had accumulated to a height of 1,5 metres, the height of most adolescents.”

Yet, the issue is that such inflammatory terminology hurts the case, as it were, when one is actually seeking to identify whether actions were, indeed, actually satanic.
